TEXT: Mark 16:15
From Romans 10:13-15, scriptures show us the responsibility that we have received. We often underestimate the power that our words are capable of making available. The believer is light. Salt. A solution. The solution. We are in partnership with God to ensure that His will prevails. He has supplied the power, and we must now manifest it, that is put it to use, show it forth and send it to where it is needed.
We must understand that we are Jesus Christ on earth (See 1 John 4:17). We are God’s means to reach out to the lost. We are His channel. His extension here on earth. The believer is the answer to the prayer of the hungry, thirsty and those in need. The believer is the answer to the sick and weary, the downcast and broken. All that Jesus did, we are empowered to do. Because we are here, Jesus need not come down again, and as beautiful as this reality is, let us recognize the responsibility that comes with it. If we do nothing, then nothing gets done. If we don’t preach, men won’t be saved, because as wiling as God is to save, He needs us to open our mouths to talk. If we don’t teach, men won’t be discipled and raised in Christ. Inactivity is permitting darkness to thrive. Apathy and passivity is as bad as doing the wrong thing, because both enable the wrong thing thrive. You have the power and permission to dispel darkness. With the word of God on your lips, you can dispel darkness. You can. We shouldn’t complain about the problem when we are in fact the solution to the problem.
There are people in need of God’s word through you. There’s a high demand on the Jesus in you, to preach the gospel, to heal the sick, raise the dead, comfort the broken-hearted and weary and dispense power as needed. You’re the solution to these problems, and if you don’t supply, things remain as they are. If you don’t preach, people won’t get saved, and darkness continues to spread. It’s our turn. It’s your turn. Let the reality of this responsibility dawn on you. Sometimes, when we say “believers”, we fail to realize that we are in fact part of the believers we’re making reference to. It sounds so distant that we do not realize how close to home it is, so let’s personalize it. “Believers must preach the gospel” should be “I must o reach the gospel”. “Believers are responsible for the spread of the gospel” becomes “I am responsible for the spread of the gospel”. Yes. It’s your responsibility. Remember, if everyone says “someone else will do it”, then no one will.
